Who do you think is the best-ever photographer for Private, and is there a particular photo set that stands out in your mind?
There are numerous choices...Woodman, Trevor Watson, Palmer etc., but for me, on the strength of his most recent work it has to be Kevin Maklin....long may he continue to work for Private!
So...who's your favourite?

Tough one. I'm an admirer of Woodman's work, and his film-making crackles with a brilliantly nasty sexual energy, but there's something about his photo-sets that turns me off a little. Perhaps it's the sameiness of a lot of the shoots. I think of a Woodman set and I'm instantly thinking mid '90s, with some slightly over-painted East European ingenue being taken in oh so familiar positions in oh so familiar bedrooms by three oh so familiar men with unpleasant pullovers. Woodman established a classic style, and at the time it was breathtaking, but I find it very hard to return to these pictures. His videos are another matter entirely, and I desperately wish he was home at Private again.
I think it has to be between Kevin Maklin and John Palmer. Almost an impossible call - Maklin can create such fabulous porn as Jana's perspiration-soaked gym fuck in Private 171 (and that babe is sensational - did she never do any movies, or other magazines? Just look at her lick that length on page 50) while in the same issue Palmer can deliver an imaginative erotic twist by having Betty Love and Melinda rut in front of middle-aged spectators (see Melinda pump spunk in the lower left hand panel of page 42, inches away from that old woman's face...)
I'm going for Palmer.

You know Daniel and Flashboy, we hadn't been paying attention to the specific photographers probably because on the member web site they aren't properly credited in the photosets section (idea for the website! Just a small caption beneath the model names idnetifying the photographer name.)
Flashboy, we're definitely fans of the Jana gym set you pointed out, and we have to say in that in the very same issue is one of our favorite series, Desert Rose & Belladonna, from the way the camera light bounces off the saliva in their dual-blow job on page 8 (Members Click Here to See Pic (http://www.privatemembers.com/member/pht/viewpic_pht.asp?bigpic=exist&No=353_3&isbigpic=yes)) to the three three-way-tonguing the models stretch to perform on pages 14-15 (Members Click Here to See Pic (http://www.privatemembers.com/member/pht/viewpic_pht.asp?bigpic=exist&No=353_9&isbigpic=yes)). Those were done by Tom Meadow.
So I guess you have given us something else to look for when looking at pics...

Yes, the photographer credits are barely legible, although I find I can recognise Maklin's work quite easily, even though it is a hell of a lot more varied than Woodman's stuff.
I'm really looking forward to his photoshoots in Private 179.....just waiting for the site update!!!
Flashboy, your critique of Woodman was spot on....I still love his work, but your comments echo my own sentiments almost exactly.

I admire Maklin's work too, Katerina in Private 178 being a recent favourite. As a Celia Blanco fan I should also thank Mandala Studios and John Palmer's photoset with Simony in Sex 44 was especially well concieved, composed and shot IMHO.

As Bawdy mentions Katerina from Private 178, there's a great unpublished pic from that series on the member web site (Members Click Here to See Pic (http://www.privatemembers.com/member/special/viewpic_special.asp?bigpic=exist&special=special%2Ftrio%5F1%2Fimg&specialtitle=Trio+1&picNo=4&isbigpic=yes)) in the "Trio 1" Categories. (And a good suggestion for a Pic of the Day Private web folk!)
As for me my favourite photographers are:
Tom Meadow (or L.A. Connection, I think they must be the same person)
Trevor Watson
Maria Gonzalez (unfortunately she left Pirate a long ago)
Image Force U.K. (the same way like Maria G.)
Kevin Maklin (he's definitely the best in the recent Private issues - for 1 or 2 years)
Jalif is better and better (see Celia Blanco in Pirate 78.)!!
But to be honest I don't really like prestigous photograpers like John Palmer and Christophe Mourthré. There also some new photographers especially in Pirate like W&W or Jonathan Edwards (and let's not talk about the Chicago amateur photographer Lee Higgs and his models who really suck) who, in my view, do not really meet the standard set up by the above mentioned artists.
