New member, but am having problems viewing Private movies under Mac OS X. Windows Media Player for Mac OS X starts up, but the movie clip never starts. Any Mac users out there know what could be happening?

Thanks in advance.

Previously, I was able to view some movies with VLC, but now all is dead.

We are sorry about that. We have just put DRM protection on all our movie streams. This is to prevent the movies being viewed without authorisation. Unfortunately our provider does not have a solution for Mac users though they are working on this. We will be putting some movies up that will be viewable for Mac members shortly but the full catalogue of movies will not be viewable. We are pushing the provider to get compatible with Mac asap.

If you would like more information please contact info@privatecs.com

Best regards

Fiona

I'm not happy at all about this. DRM is just a pain in the ass and won't stop a dedicated pirate at all. Stop worrying about protecting your content and start making your customers happy. DRM'd content is a reason to cancel my subscription to me. This isn't what I signed up for. I love this site, but I hate these backward corporate policies.

pguest -

We are sorry that you feel this way. We are protecting our content and also your experience by implementing DRM. You might not have been a member long enough to have been around while content was being stolen, but it definitely did affect your user experience because there was so much load on the servers that no members could view anything!

As for pirates hacking into Microsoft DRM this is not true. The protection that we have placed has not been hacked by anyone thusfar in the world, although I am sure they are trying.

We do apologise that there have been some glitches in the system during the implementation and we are more than happy to work through these with you, but please understand that we are looking to provide our customers with a better experience and also keep costs down for everyone. If we were to let the streams stay open then we would be forced to offset the (HUGE) streaming costs onto customers which we refuse to do.

There is a problem with Linux and the view of the trailers in the Private shop.
I have a MPlayer 1.0pre4-3.3.2 and mplayer plug-in 2.66 for mozilla.
The movie isn't downloading from the server because the source code from the web page is "optimized" for Explorer.
This problem is very frequent with a lot of pages.
PS
I don't use Windows because there is a lot of problems with it. I prefer open source because is better and FREE.

It's funny how it's 2 years later and there are still issues with viewing videos on a Mac. Of course they don't tell you this on the main page but only after you give them your credit card and pay 20 bucks to join. This is the first site I've ever joined that I've had problems like this with. I joined just for the videos and I can't even watch them because I'm on a Mac.

I sent an email asking for a refund so hopefully Private does the right thing considering I sent the email 5 minutes after I joined when I realized I couldn't even watch the movies. You need to make the site a little more Mac friendly guys because a lot more people are getting Macs...

Sometimes complaining helps. DHD now offers an acceptable solution for Mac users by offering Flash movies. Works well.
