i cant see it, but reminds me of another company who had Champagne as a promo item 10 years or so ago. It had bits of real gold glitter in it. I still have a bottle in my cupboard :)

Odd that you should mention about product placement...I know a lot of companies would be unhappy if their products were featured prominently in a Private production, but I think they should embrace the opportunity in the same way as they do with mainstream films. I mean, wouldn't you be more inclined to consider buying Brand X running shoes if you thought wearing them would increase your chances of scoring with Rita Faltoyano or Joana Redgrave, or maybe both at the same time? :D

So many advertisements (particularly for men's aftershave/deodorant) use lame 'use this-be more attractive to women' style advertising, it's just surprising none of them have gone the whole hog and tried product placement in a Private production...it would probably have to be a daring, forward-thinking brand, but I think it could definitely work!

I mean, all these years and all these billions Pepsi have wasted on getting endorsements from celebrities...singers, footballers, etc...and they're still playing second fiddle to Coke...maybe it's time for them to rethink their marketing strategy? :P

I remember a faked Nike ad some years ago where one could see the lower half of a photo showing a girl in a sport dress doing a BJ while wearing Nikes. One couldn't see her head or his private parts but their posture was unambiguous. And there was this splodge on her knee. A perfect photo shot, well lit, brilliant colors. It once appeared in a german news magazine speculating about its origin. Nike was furious and sweared not to have anything to do with this "advertisement". One may think that this is another way to get some more publicity, but this kind of marketing is rarely seen. :)

Mason, we wonder if you're thinking about the fake Puma ads? (below)

They were fake, but creative for sure.

Ooops, Puma, of course! Long ago I've been wearing sneakers! Here's (http://www.memefirst.com/article.php?story=20030309192954666) another Link.[/url]. But I think the industry's just not ready yet.

Like I say, it would have to be a small, radical brand with a take-no-prisoners attitude, not a blue-chip megabrand like Nike or Puma, which would sort of limit the products available...if you look carefully in US mainstream films, you'll see Apple everywhere, because they're heavily into product placement. (Although let's not mention Blade:Trinity, with the delicious Jessica Biel who likes to listen to MP3's on her iPod while she hunts vampires...smart move, taking out one of her senses...why not wear a Nike blindfold and go the whole hog? )

I just watched a movie called 'Torque' on the TV, which was crap, but it struck me that Budweiser, Pepsi and Mountain Dew had dropped a lot of cash on it, because their products are all over it. Indeed, in the final confrontation between the two female leads, where they indulge in a sort of joust-on-motorbikes, there are huge ad hoardings for Pepsi and Mountain Dew at either end of the strip they are fighting on...real subtle.

An energy drink would be a natural fit for Private, but not Private's own brand of energy drink...shilling your own stuff in your own movies just looks desperate. Other than that, to shift goods to men, you need an iconic male star that men identify with and want to be like, and they don't really have that...a James Bond type of character (one of the forefathers of product placement). Dare I say it, a male contract star? Why do Nike and Adidas pay the likes of Henry, Ronaldinho, Beckham, Zidane etc. so much to wear their products? Because they know the audience identifies with them, and wants to be like them (just look at this wristband fad at the minute)...would anyone be so bold as to try this in porn, and is there a visionary third-party sponsor brave enough to see the opportunity? Who knows....

On the other hand, non-explicitly branded goods (i.e., stuff which doesn't bear the visible Private logo) can be promoted within Private media without looking sad...Private lingerie, sex toys, etc., and provides a useful marketing synergy for both.

Personally, I still think Pepsi are missing a trick here....

I don't think so. Imagine <famous brand> appears somewhere in a porn flic. A competitor of <famous brand> becomes aware of this. This competitor tells his lobbyist, the media, politicians etc. about it. Pressure on <famous brand> rises, Wal-Mart and other big vendors decide to stop sales of <famous brand>. Big economic disaster. I think no big company would risk this. Though, sometimes there are exceptions: two years or so ago I noticed a big wallpaper with Gina Wild squeezing a can (some energy drink) between her breasts. A real eye-catcher. This ad was banned some days later - but they attracted attention!
