An American porn producer did a Bond spoof with a series of movies about 'Jane Bond', in the late 80s or early 90s, but I don't remember much about it... I wonder at what point such parodies might run into legal difficulties.

That's funny... I was thinking of Robert Malone, too, ... and I was also remembering a couple of contemporaries of his, Yves Ballait and Jean-Pierre Armand. How about a spoof of TV's 'This Is Your Life' format...?

I just saw the C4 repeat of 'Porn Shutdown', which was broadcast yesterday evening, and it seemed to me to be a mostly fair and sensitive look at the Los Angeles industry's HIV crisis of 2004. I’ve posted the following review of the documentary to a thread in the AdultDVDTalk forums:

Ex-porn star Dr. Sharon Mitchell and her medical project AIM were 'the centre of gravity' in this documentary. Sharon made many intelligent observations about the service she provides for the porn industry, its importance and its limitations. Her HIV screening process failed to give a positive result for Darren James and to protect his co-stars because, it seems, he was infected shortly before he took a test: Sharon pointed out the obvious, that her screening clinic can't offer performers a guarantee against HIV infection.

In terms of the documentary's 'narrative stance', there was a real sadness to the stories of the performers Darren James unknowingly infected - particularly Laura Roxx - although both the infected women who were interviewed (Laura and Meriesa Arroyo) appeared to be really strong in coming to terms with their HIV status.

The documentary took an approving line on Vivid's policy of using contract girls and condoms, and on the use of condoms in gay porn (as expounded by Chi Chi). But at the other end of the spectrum it was suggested that gonzo, where no condoms are used, is becoming increasingly debased and degrading. (Here, the documentary zeroed in on rape fantasies involving Afghan terrorists and Americans abusing Iraqi women: this, perhaps, is where the film made the sensationalist error of tarring all gonzo feathers with the same brush.)

Laura Roxx's allegation that T. T. Boy tried to intimidate her with stares when she returned to Los Angeles to be interviewed for the documentary does him no favours at all. (Apparently it was during the making of one of his Evasive Angels films that she was infected by Darren James.)

On the other hand, Max Hardcore and Rob Black both came across as charismatic interviewees. It's as if both men appreciated that by cooperating in the making of this film and agreeing to be interviewed, their personal charisma might, in itself, help mitigate what the documentary would have to say about the dark side of gonzo. (Black played out the role of an outrageous dude to comic effect, while Hardcore exuded gentlemanly charm - even when explaining how he uses pissing in his movies.) However, neither of these producers had any direct involvement with the 2004 HIV outbreak: interviews with or statements by Darren James or T. T. Boy would have had greater relevance here.

Kami Andrews contributed by demonstrating what 'double anal' is, and her flippant comment about her fears that one day her ass will fall out served only to back up, kind of, what Sharon had been saying about the increased health risks associated with this form of sex. (Kami has emailed me to say: "Actually, I got so much heat about that [my comment], people dont know how to interpret me. I'm glad you got it.")

The documentary suggested that not all the women involved in the sex industry face up to the risks they're running. The viewer really felt anxious for one young performer, Kayla Marie, who was seen waiting for her test result after having been placed in 'quarantine'... and the news that in her case the result was negative brought palpable relief. (The fact that James had come in Kayla's vagina, not in her ass, was mentioned as a point which possibly made the difference in her case.)

The evangelical right were briefly covered as porn's "true enemies", but mercifully the documentary didn't pretend that they have a voice in the debate which deserves a serious hearing.

Christopher Eccleston's narration lent restraint and decency to the tone of the documentary, and there was a sense of being 'on side' with the women while looking into the terrible sadness of the particular situation with the HIV infections and exploring concerns about the risks.

'Night-Flight'

I'm reminded by this of a beautiful blonde model who fronted British Airways' advertisements of the late 1970s, dressed as an air stewardess. She can be seen in the ad on a billboard poster in the 1979 James Bond movie, 'Moonraker'. One of Bond's assailants crashes head-first into her mouth on the roadside hoarding, having been sent tumbling from the back of an ambulance on a stretcher trolley. Back in the early days of Private video, an excellent stewardess scene called 'Night-Flight' featured in Private Video Magazine #8. This scene was shot in what appears to be a mock-up of a passenger flight cabin. A beautiful, dusky stewardess, Samantha Shamal, is leaning across the seats, fussing over the passengers, brushing against them and arranging blankets over their laps. She is wearing a neat white blouse, a tight grey skirt and stockings and suspenders.

Flashboy, there are a couple of elements to this scene that I'm sure you'd appreciate. (i) Although the stewardess eventually strips off, she keeps her clothes on for the earlier phases of fucking and sucking - so the uniform fantasy is nicely sustained. (ii) As the hot trio writhe and hump over their seats, the passengers to the rear of the action are completely oblivious to what is going on; they snooze or listen to personal stereos. This somehow adds to the erotic power of the illicit sex.

I defy any Private fan who's seen 'Night-Flight' not to remember this scene fondly when next fussed over by an attractive stewardess on a long-haul flight - but unlike the guy in the scene please show the hard-working girl some manners and keep your cock in your pants!



'Who Watches The Waitress?'

I like Flashboy's suggestion about the presence of middle-aged or elderly 'extras' on the restaurant set. There's something exciting about the idea of a contrast between the youth and beauty of the model playing the waitress and the age and plain looks of the surrounding diners.

Moli, who used to film for the German label 'Magma', is an example of a director outside the Private fold making regular use of older actors as voyeurs. In Moli's movies, various senior citizens would savour the proximity of hot young babes rutting under their noses. This sort of thing is much rarer in Private, though at the beginning of 'Sweet Baby 2' - Woodman's classic vehicle for Nikky Andersson - Nikky allows a silver-haired old gent to lick her minge and wank himself off at the sight of her open crotch. As far as Flashboy's scene is concerned, it matters whether the diners would be (i) attempting to ignore the waitress's antics and maintain an air of indifference, or (ii) looking on with unashamed lust, with the gentlemen, especially, craning forward to get a better view. Either alternative would bring an extra erotic dimension to the scene.

One of the sweet frustrations of porn is that the babe in the frame is unattainable for the viewer; she exists only as an image of a prior event (the shoot), and she's not really there, in the flesh, however much we may desire her.

I think that what might appeal to us about scenes in which elderly men participate as voyuers is that their situation reminds us of this 'frustration about the unattainable', which is essential to porn.

The generation gap and a loss of physical attractiveness and strength prevent the elderly guy in our porn scene from being able to enjoy, for himself, the wet young bitch after whom he lusts; he cannot access the babe who tantalisingly fucks all the younger men before his envious eye. His 'frustration about the unattainable' mirrors our own, as viewers of porn, regardless of how old we ourselves might happen to be...



'Anal Underground'

My submission for the Private Fantasy range would be for a vignette called 'Anal Underground', shot in the mock-up of a carriage on a London Underground train.

It would be a hot summer's day and the train would be jolting slowly through the metro stations of the city centre... The leading man is standing at the end of the carriage, bored, clutching a rail with one hand and holding a newspaper in the other. At first the carriage isn't particularly crowded, but suddenly, at the next stop, several high-spirited Italian tourists are piling in - all of them girls, and all of them wearing crop tops and hot pants. The man's interest is aroused, especially when, as the train rumbles out of the station, the giggling gaggle pushes back in his direction, and one of the girls starts to rub her butt against his trousered crotch. In some of his Ben Dover scenes, the "chance meetings" between Perry and the girls occur on the London Underground system, in District Line trains or by stations in West London - although the sex itself doesn't take place until he has persuaded the girls to accompany him and his stud companions to an indoor location, a house or apartment.

I understand that fantasies about intimate contact on crowded metro trains are very big in Japan, with entire fetish nights devoted to the theme! Responsible porn does not set out to encourage anti-social behaviour in p ublic places; and so, as far as 'Anal Underground' is concerned, I would insist that there is a very obvious demarcation between the 'reality' of the set and opening situation, and the 'fantasy' of the performers' sexual behaviour. In this respect the style I'd want the director to go for is exactly the one achieved in 'Night-Flight'. In Private magazine #175, there's a horny photoset about a girl who takes a ride on a bus and ends up being gang-banged by a random assortment of fellow passengers. The design of this photoset is also in the spirit of what I would imagine for 'Anal Underground'.


I recently bought 'Reality' #22, 'Insatiable Sex Dolls', and discovered that Tom Herold had made use of a metro subway as a location for his scene, 'Club Underground' (Prague, May 2003)... 'Trevi Fountain Frolic'

I'd like to share a 'Private Fantasy' based on an iconic image of the sixties... the celebrated scene in Federico Fellini's 'La Dolce Vita' (1960) where Marcello Mastroianni and Anita Ekberg enjoy a night-time frolic in the Trevi Fountain in Rome. The scene was called 'Sex Under The Tower' and it was released as part of 'Private Video Magazine' #20 (1995). The studs were David Perry and Jean-Yves Lecastel and the girl's name isn't given at the start of the scene. She had short brown hair. There is some footage of the trio wandering along the Champs-Elysees before they end up under the Eiffel Tower, where they have have sex on a bench. It looks to have been a freezing cold night and the two guys seem wary, as if the risk of being arrested was weighing on their minds. I guess this scene would have been shot at about the same time as the production of 'The Tower', which is also set in Paris. In terms of sheer horniness, I think that 'Sex Under The Tower' is trumped in 'Private Video Magazine' #20 by the classic anal scene 'Ildico', where a girl in pigtails and Daisy Dukes is taken by four guys.

The difference between a classic vignette like 'Sex Under The Tower' and the recent 'Sex In Public', by Toni Ribas, is that Woodman soon gets down to business with the fucking, whereas a lot of time is spent by Ribas revelling in the 'naughtiness' of a quick poke or a quick suck in pub-lic - and flirting with the risk of being spotted by tourists or shoppers. 'Sex In Public' is fun in the sense that you end up finding out what it might be like to date a mischievous nympho like Lucy Belle as your "girlfriend for the day" - and dating Lucy is possible if certain escort agencies are to be believed! But the film is flawed by the fact that the beautiful Belicia is present in a scene without actually getting fucked herself!


Overall, 'Sex In Public' is closer to the sort of thing that Ben Dover (aka Steve Perry) used to get up to: it trades as much on the comedy of embarrassment as it does on lust - with the unwitting passers-by as the patsies. And although it's fascinating to watch Ribas fooling around with his girls in Prague's Old Town Square, or at the Buda Castle in Budapest, it was far more daring of Woodman to mount a full sex scene under the Eiffel Tower, an iconic landmark which is closely and jealously policed by the French authorities.

'Pirates' or 'Jason Colt'?

An excellent question! I've gotta say it: overall, 'Pirates', the Digital Playground / Adam & Eve production, is far better. Jesse Jane and Devon are hard acts to follow when it comes to blonde American talent, and I love the enthusiasm with which Jesse giggles her way through the DVD commentary track. The special effects sequences in 'Pirates' are truly amazing, but they don't intrude on the sex.

Private's 'Jason Colt' is lavish and spectacular but the director makes the critical mistake of prioritising a flashy editing style over pornographic impact, ruining some of the key sex scenes through over-indulgent tricksiness. The bottom line is : if someone wants to see 'The Bourne Ultimatum' or 'Casino Royale' then those are the movies they'll rent. If they want to see a good porn movie then, sure, they may well prefer an expensive-looking, whizzbang feature-length porno to some nasty cheap gonzo, but at the end of the day they'll still expect to be able to settle down to some enjoyable masturbation without the director / editor continually getting in the way! It's all about striking the right balance...

Kapri Styles, one of the leads in 'Jason Colt', is among the sexiest stars out there. She's the black girl who gazes out at you from the DVD box sleeve with challenging haughtiness, looking as hot as any of the most celebrated R&B or hip hop chicks in mainstream media. Unfortunately her scene in the movie is one of those which gets messed around by pretentious editing, to detrimental effect, but Kapri's fierce sexual charisma is still a major draw and her act is smokin'.

From Fan Fantasy to Film Production: 'Draculya, The Girls are Hungry' (Part 1)


The idea of a Vampirella parody is very appealing. I had a thing for this bloodsucking femme fatale when I was a lad, and I spent longer than was really good for me absorbed in repeated readings of her original mags, published by Warren Comics. The cover paintings held a special fascination for me, and I was endlessly thumbing through the artwork of Franzetta, Sanjulian, Enrich, Gonzales and Silke. I remember, for example, indulging in frequent contemplation of the cover of 'Vampirella' #18:

This image would be a wonderful artistic cue for a scene in a Private movie entitled 'The Vampire Fuckers'. I would cast Steve Holmes as the cowering 'Count Cockula', and Ginger as 'Cuntella' - the star of the show. Ginger's name is, of course, a comical misnomer, since she has dark hair, just like Vampirella! In her movies, Ginger's look resembles closely the image of Vampi as realised on the #18 cover (but minus the fangs!). When watching Ginger's scenes, it's easy to see how casting her in this role would work amazingly well. If an audition is required, look no further than her scenes in 'Reality #19: Beds of Sin', and 'Body Shock'.

There are other possibilities for a 'fantasy' casting of Cuntella. Marvel at how closely Cristina Bella resembles the image of the vampire vixen as realised on the cover of the Silver Anniversary Edition of 'Vampirella of Drakulon'. And there’s always Mandy Bright: she has the ideal face and figure for a Vampirella character - the image of a retro Playboy model turned nasty with plenty of domina potential. (Mandy would have to keep her hair dyed black, though.)

As a pleaser for poster Bram, 'The Vampire Fuckers' would need to include a parody of the scene in 'Bram Stoker's Dracula' where the Brides of Dracula prey on Keanu Reeves' character, Jonathan Harker.

In 1992, Francis Ford Coppola incorporated to his 'Bram Stoker's Dracula' references to numerous 'moments' in the history of vampire movies throughout the twentieth century. For example, the highly erotic scene where the Brides of Dracula seduce and feed on Jonathan Harker is shot and edited as a kind of homage to the schlock horror of early 70s Hammer releases like 'The Vampire Lovers' and 'Lust for a Vampire' - but Coppola goes beyond even that, to flirt with some of the codes and conventions of porn. Coppola's scene is, of course, a 'softcore' piece, but as the three foxy bloodsuckers set about the entranced and helpless Keanu Reeves, Coppola manages to evoke the kind of intense intimacy that we find in blowjob or group sex sequences in 'hardcore' porn. Perhaps Private should now repay Mr. Coppola the compliment of an acknowledgement, with a hardcore parody of the scene... My casting choices for the three spooky undead harlots would be Donna Marie, Niky Belluci and Lucky. (Lucky appears in a scene in 'Cleopatra'. Can we see more of her, please?) Bobbi Eden, being Dutch, would make a superb Professor 'Pussy' Van Helsing!

As for directing 'The Vampire Fuckers', let Susi Medusa loose on it - with a big budget and, perhaps, a creative partnership with Romagnoli or Jose M. Ponce...?

Incidentally, the high standard and the style of the special fx make-up in the Private Ninn release 'Perfect' leave me wondering whether some of the make-up team hadn't also worked on 'Bram Stoker's Dracula', or at least used reference materials from it: the prosthetic mask created for Ninn's Demon in the dp scene with Jodie Moore is very close indeed to a mask worn by Gary Oldman when Dracula appears in his demonic incarnation. Was this the same make-up talent? (It's excellent work, which puts to shame the third-rate use of prosthetic make-up in Private's 'Eternal Love'.)

In 'The Vampire Fuckers', Cuntella's full name would be Cuntella Karnstein. This would be a nod to Sheridan Le Fanu's character, Mircalla Karnstein, as played, respectively, by Ingrid Pitt and Yutte Stensgaard in Hammer's 'The Vampire Lovers' and 'Lust for A Vampire' (both 1970). These were the first mainstream vampire flicks in which the focus of the undead's attention transferred openly from neck to nipple. Ms. Pitt, who still makes occasional guest appearances at vampire festivals, could perhaps be persuaded to reprise her role as Mircalla for a brief cameo performance in 'The Vampire Fuckers' - now that would be a coup! The opening scene would be set on the planet Drakkulon, where Mircalla bids farewell to her young protegee Cuntella and sends her on a mission to Earth to infect humankind with the curse of eternal lust and overthrow the evil dynasty of Count Cockula... I foresee a trilogy...

'Dracula AD 1972' is actually amongst my favourite Hammer horrors. Christopher Lee looks absolutely depraved in it - and although it's true that after the pre-credits sequence he never roams beyond his lair at the desanctified church, the scene in which he subdues and gets stuck into the hysterical and whimpering Laura (Caroline Munro) is one of the most vivid instances of perversion in the entire Dracula series. As for the contemporary milieu, Jessica Van Helsing (Stephanie Beecham) and her bohemian friends hang out in a fashionable Chelsea bar, so we do get some sense of a swinging seventies London in the scenes with them.

Young, blonde and buxom Linda Hayden plays Alice in 'Taste the Blood of Dracula', and she's my favourite Hammer starlet. I certainly have, before now, jacked off to the bedroom scene in which Alice, attired in a revealing nightdress, is threatened with a whipping by a drunken Victorian patriarch and then 'turned' by the evil Count.

'Scars of Dracula' includes a farcical but arousing scene in which a comedy burgomaster chases his scampering, naked daughter to her bedroom, intent on punishing her for her promiscuous behaviour, while she holds on desperately to a bed sheet as the only means of concealing her boobs. (Very 'Benny Hill', all this.) But the sexiest Hammer Dracula of them all is the last one, 'The Satanic Rites of Dracula', which at times really pushes the envelope in the direction of soft porn.

Flashboy, I know from reading another topic in the forum that you have a thing for twins. I wonder if you've ever seen Hammer's last instalment of the Karnstein trilogy, 'Twins of Evil'. Madeleine and Mary Collinson are two gorgeous young models who play orphaned Vienesse twins. They spend their time between attempts to avoid a whipping from their disapproving Puritan uncle, and speculation about the intentions of Karnstein's handsome but debauched Count. The twins are two more characters I would suggest for inclusion in Private's very own vampire movie...

It occurs to me that, despite all the obvious differences, there are certain interesting similarities between much porn production and how Hammer was working as a relatively small, low-budget studio: e.g. efficiency in using the same locations and sets, and much of the same cast, for different movies made within a single production block; use of 'contract talent'; and an unashamed re-hashing of established genres, with a willingness to give the audience exactly the sorts of set-ups, cliches and climaxes they had come to expect and were paying to see. Hammer films certainly achieved a popularity with their target audience, and this represented a real commercial success when set against the often low costs of production. Hammer was an example of a small-scale but successful British adaptation of the classic 'studio system' of the golden age of Hollywood production. Coralie, to my mind, is 'the face' of The Tower - though it was another model, Aliza, whose character threaded the story together. As for Lisa Harper, her freckles, blue eyes, blowjob stare and anal speciality stick in my mind from the good old days of Private video.

From 'Sweet Baby' to 'Sweet Lady'...

It's been interesting to read all the speculation about why certain Pierre Woodman titles are no longer available in their original form, and to consider why these films might be in need of censoring or re-editing. A lot has been written about 'The Tower' and 'The Golden Triangle.' Nerdgirl has told us that in the case of 'The Tower' the problem was to do with the location, and that the reason for the film's withdrawal is less sensational than we had all conjectured. In the case of 'The Golden Triangle', on the other hand, it appears that the problem was a thorny one to do with a girl in the cast, Natacha.

I finally got around to ordering 'Sweet Baby' vols. 1 and 2 this week, and when these DVDs arrived I was interested to note that on the box covers the wording of the title has been changed to 'Sweet Lady'. I assume that this alteration has been made to eliminate any possibility of a dubious or undesirable ambiguity: out of context, "baby" might be misconstrued as suggesting under-age...? If I'm right, it's reassuring that Private is taking this super-sensitive approach to a revised presentation of its products: this shows that the company is serious about its responsibilities as a world leader in the production and distribution of 'civilised' porn.

That said, I couldn't help wondering whether 'Sweet Babe' might have been more appealing than 'Sweet Lady' as a replacement title. The word 'babe' doesn't have the same ambiguity that 'baby' might have - it is less vulnerable to being misconstrued - but it does sound pretty cool. Then again, 'Sweet Babe' lacks that catchy third syllable which 'Sweet Lady' preserves...

I recently ordered and received the deleted Private DVDs 'The Tower' and 'The Tower 2 + 3' from an American retailer, Adult Video Universe. Both DVDs were produced in 2000, and I was surprised and delighted to discover that these releases were still in stock. The Adult Video Universe site includes customers' reviews of titles on sale, and the following review of '2 + 3', together with comments already posted in this thread, left me with no illusions about what I was buying. 'The Tower' DVDs are edited versions of the original VHS releases, and certain scenes with good-looking models and great sex are not included. I remember these missing scenes from old VHS copies, but even so I've been thrilled by the opportunity to acquire the edited DVD editions. The 'surviving' scenes are premiere-league Woodman, and after all they make up, by far, the greater part of the original movies. It's been fun to watch again the scenes with Alyssa and Monique Covet - in the light of Woodman's recent 'A Life In Porn' reminiscences about casting for 'The Tower' and his personal hotel-room frolics with these girls!

"Private have made a monster mess of this release. I wondered whether any of the Private girls go for gothic looks, fashion, music and clubs as part of their lifestyle preference? Possibly not - as the goth scene is not as big in eastern Europe (from where many of the private girls hail) as in the west.

If you've seen that interview, there's an extra fascination in watching them share Belladona for this dp! but the scene has a surprise ending: in struts Sophie Evans, wearing a fetching dark wig; while Vidal and Belladona continue to canoodle, Sophie stoops over to suck on Ribas and finish him off with a brisk, highly watchable handjob! Just listen to his groans of Faustian ecstasy!

There's much more of Belladona in this twelve-scene gothic masterpiece, but i've got writer's cramp (yes, i said "writer's" cramp, not "wa..." ... oh, never mind!)

Incidentally, Nach Vidal makes a reference in the 'Faust' 'Report' to another film made by Jose M. Ponce called 'Gothix'. Anyone know anything about this?
